This is how most of us navigate life.
Looking for simple solutions to the complex problems we’re facing. But that’s an illusion. Reality is multi-faceted and highly dynamic. This challenges our lazy brains that always look for shortcuts. But in order to tackle the issues of our times - climate change, the destruction of our biosphere, our broken economic system, addiction, our loneliness epidemic - we need people who are capable of holding this complexity. And who are educating themselves in many different areas in order to develop the synergistic wisdom that is necessary to address the meta-crisis.
Neither the narrowly-focused environmentalist, nor the spiritual seeker, nor the innovative tech guy will be able to come up with useful stuff. We need to bridge disciplines, cross borders and combine knowledge from fields as far away as possible. We need modern day Leonardo’s.
Leonardo da Vinci was a painter, a scientist, an architect, an engineer, an astronomer, a sculptor, a biologist, and a musician. He was a true polymath, a universal genius.
Leonardo's ability to integrate knowledge from diverse domains empowered him to envision innovations far ahead of his time. Exactly this approach is what is necessary in order to navigate the complex and ever-changing times we live in right now. We need more polymaths, more modern day renaissance men and women who have the capability to steer humanity through our current rebirth.
