Welcome to the FINAL day of potato harvest! Today I’m standing in front of a literal mountain of potatoes—this cellar will hold close to 10 million pounds once we finish filling it. We’ve got a little left to go, but we’re pushing hard to wrap up the season.
In this video I walk you through everything happening at the cellar: the piler setup, how the expandable conveyors work, how we unload two trucks at a time, and how the even-flow bin automatically controls the whole system. You’ll see just how many weeds and wild oats we’re battling this year and how our sorter tables, shakers, stars, and pickers clean everything up before the potatoes hit the pile.
Then we head to the field, where the real chaos is—plugged belts, clumps of wild oats, dirt jams, and nonstop troubleshooting. I show you how our six-row windrower feeds into the harvester, how the chains separate vines and dirt, and what the potatoes look like coming out of the ground.
We talk yields, fumigation, and why this year is running almost 100 sacks per acre lower than our goal… but also why next year could be one of our best crops ever.
