I've heard people say 'America has no culture.' Coudn't disagree more.
First: I've been in the middle-of-nowhere in Asia and seen Michael Jordan jerseys & Post Malone's music. America's pop culture dominates the world.
Second: America has many cultures. Amish culture, Hispanic culture, hip-hip culture, needless to say the crown jewel amongst them is COWBOY CULTURE.
(Sure, America's cultures aren't milleniums old but you can see dozens of cultures while RVing around this country. It's the best place for a longterm roadtrip, I think)
What makes cowboys so great? To me, it's what makes skateboarders so great. It's self taught & dangerous. It's visually awesome and sort of counter-culture. Riding a bucking bull and grinding the handrail on a 15 set might appear wildly different at first glace, but I feel they're pretty similar. Not to mention both skateboarding and cowboying have, what I would call, posers. (for instance, me!)
Now: my dressing-like-a-skater-while-never-ever-not-once-ever-jumping-down-staircases days are behind me BUUUT, are my dressing-like-a-cowboy-while-not-knowing-what-end-of-the-horse-to-ride days about to begin? I decided to go to Cowboy Capital of U.S.A to find out: TEXAS!
We started our journey at the Old Stockyards in Forth Worth. What a great place. Country music, photo-ops with longhorns, BIG TRUCKS, you name it. There's people all around, young & old, wearing cowboy boots and hats. It's almost like a caricature of what someone who's never been to Texas thinks Texas is like. What a great place.
(Ivana mentioned that it almost felt like a Taylor Swift concert, but I am a married man and did not notice any of the dozens of cowgirls out for a night on the town with their friends. Although I will mention for th 10838 time that Ivana neeEDS TO BUY A COWBOY HATT!)
(Although, I didn't buy a hat either, so I have no leg to stand on. Maybe when we start our Dallas Cowboys trip.)
In the Stockyards, we saw a rodeo. I sort of wish we saw a bucking bull with a cowboy on the back only wearing a cowboy hat-- but they all wear helmets nowadays, and I get it. It had to happen. Everybody wants to see a cowboy-hat-only rider until their head gets stomped by a bull. Still a great performance and I will give a shoutout to the ladies running on horseback around barrels. Surprisingly great to watch.
Now: our plan was to go to 'The World's Largest Honky Tonk', and we don't even really know what that is. Unfortunately there was a concert in town and it so no honky tonk for us. BUUT, this led to a great memory of our cowboy experience.
We found a store called NRS - National Roping Supply. This is where real life cowboys get their horse-stuff. It's basically Cowboy Walmart and it was awesome. The store is huge and full of whatchamacallits and thingadings. Countless items that we had a vague sense of what they might be for, and typically handcrafted and intricate, and beautiful!
We met Ezra who's a real life cowboy and he showed us how to steam hats to make all the differnt indents in the top. His had was a 200x Stetson made from beaver that probably cost 600 bucks or so. When he walked his boots made a noise on the floor that sounded cool. My shoes don't make that noise. I felt jealous.
TIMESTAMPS:
00:00 - My whole life I wanted to be a cowboy
00:37 - RODEO CLIPS
1:39 - Shoutout to all the real cowboys out there
3:58 - OPINION: Cowboying is like skateboarding
5:07 - 50 USD cowboy hat or 60 USD cow hide carpet
6:50 - Live music at the LOVE SHACK! (R.I.P Brad Hines)
7:59 - BIG TRUCKS & Swifites is a good party
8:40 - The Cattle Drive is overrated and lame
10:19 - WE DISCOVERED COWBOY WALMART
13:38 - The story of the American Cowboy
15:26 - I MET A REAL COWBOY
21:57 - I cannot afford to be a cowboy (EXPENSIVE STUFF)

![Emotional visit to Medina as a Christian 🇸🇦 (Inside Islams 2nd holiest city)
We traveled to Medina (Madinah), Saudi Arabia, the second holiest city in all of Islam. We are non-Muslims, but, weve been in Saudi Arabia long enough to know the people here will welcome us with arms wide open. We were very excited to see this city, which has just opened up to non-Muslims recently.
We started off taking a 300km/h train from Jeddah. The ride was smooth, and comfortable, although the cafeteria car didnt offer full meals like we were looking for. No sweat, still worth the 20 USD per person!
After checking in and grabbing some lunch, we hit the streets in search of 2 incredibly improtant mosques.
The first: Masjib Quba the birthplace of Islam. This was the first mosque ever built, with the first stone being laid by Prophet Muhammad himself. You could feel the gravity of the place, although people were just starting to come out, as the weather was still pretty warm.
From there, we took an electric golf-cart-limosine to Masjid al-Nabawi the prophets mosque. This mosque contains the grave of Prophet Muhammad himself. By now, people were everywhere. The courtyard around the Mosque is massive, and full of people praying. Everyone was dressed very respectfully. You could feel the pull of each person coming to this place for one reason. It was like everyone was in a massive rowboat, pulling in the same direction, at the same time. The force was palpable. It was something we wont forget. (and, our daughter got pooped on by a bird, we take this as a sign of good luck :D)
From there, we toured around the massive crowds, and tried some dates, that are evidently the best in the world.
Next, we were headed toward dinner, when we noticed a big sign that said, Jesus, peace be upon him. It was a reminder that Islam and Christianity are both Abrahamic religious. They have a lot in common. To that point everyone weve met here in Saudi Arabia has been incredibly warm and hospitable to us. We are all one people.
From there, we headed off to dinner. Delicious food to end another great day in Saudi Arabia.

![CRAZIEST RV adventure in the USA (stuck in alligators swamp)
Our bus-to-RV conversion is working pretty well for us. We are learning the ropes, of how to manage our space inside the bus, our water tanks beneath the bus, and the flow of our day driving from one place to another and where to park overnight.
One big downside of the bus-to-RV conversion is, it can be hard to level the bus out on uneven ground. (Keeping the bus level is key to a good night sleep.) While other RVs or trailers have down-riggers to raise/lower the unit accordingly, our bus needs wood blocks under the tires to level.
So, when we arrived at this meadery-beside-a-swamp, we noticed the ground was not level at all. Our attempt to drive our front tries up onto a bank was a total fail, when we discovered what appears to be a trench that was dug by the owner to run the pipes and wires for the RV hookups. Our front tires fell in if you look closely, there is a wall of mud directly behind both tires. Meaning, even a pickup like my dads RAM1500 will not pull us out. We decided to call CAA (Canadian equivalent of AAA that works both sides of the border.)
The flatbed with a winch tried to pull me out on his own, but he needed me to put it in reverse and help him. AND THEN: we were finally out! Free at last, and... on the first sunny day weve seen in a week! Lets goooooo!! (I actually tipped the tow truck driver 25 bucks, and he seemed completely surprised by it. I guess it doesnt happen often, anyway shoutout to him.
After that, we went on a hike in the swamp AND SAW A REAL LIFE WILD ALLIGATOR THAT TRIED TO EAT EVERY LAST ONE OF US. Okay, slight exaggeration, but when the alligator moved suddenly and disappeared underwater, we were all scared and decided that was enough hiking for one day :) .
Next: I realized my knee is totally shot and began contemplating going to Mexico for an MRI and surgery. (On second thought, Ill be trying to get the MRI ASAP here in Jacksonville, and then well see about surgery.)
And so, after a Catan WIN and a nighttime photography FAIL, it was a pretty eventful day in the bus. Thanks for spending it with us.
TIMESTAMPS:
00:00 - Big mistake...
3:27 - Big thanks to CAA (Canadian AAA): Paid for our membership already
4:21 - This is what waking up in the bus is like
5:55 - OMGOSH WE ALMOST DIED

12:32 - Can anyone help with nighttime photography?
