We collected radioactive particles⌠from the air? â˘ď¸
Near an old uranium mine in JĂĄchymov, Czechia, we ran an air pump through a cotton filter.
After some time, the filter was measurably radioactive, reaching around 1â2 ÎźSv/h with the RadiaCode. Using gamma spectrometry, we could even see characteristic peaks from the radioactive products!
And this isnât just ANY uranium mine: radon-rich water from the area has historically been used for JĂĄchymovâs famous radon spa treatments.
Safety note: Old mine areas can contain elevated radon and radioactive dust. Avoid disturbing dust and use appropriate respiratory protection when necessary.
