Nearly 40 years after the Goiânia radiological accident, traces of cesium-137 can still be detected. ☢️
We explored locations connected to the 1987 accident with a Radiacode 110, including areas where readings close to the surface can still reach around 2 μSv/h.
The original Cs-137 source was broken open after being removed from an abandoned radiotherapy clinic, eventually spreading radioactive contamination through parts of the city. Decades of radioactive decay and a massive cleanup later, some traces can still be found today.
