We are made of "starstuff" — a concept rooted in nucleosynthesis and the life cycle of stars. Nucleosynthesis is the process where elements form through nuclear reactions within stars. It starts with hydrogen fusion in star cores, producing helium. As stars age, they fuse helium into heavier elements like carbon and oxygen. More massive stars even forge elements beyond iron.

Ultimately, stars meet their fate in one of two ways. Smaller stars shed outer layers, forming white dwarfs. More massive stars explode in spectacular supernovae, scattering heavy elements into space. These materials mix with cosmic gas and dust, creating new star systems. Consequently, our bodies and our planet are composed of elements born in the fiery cores of stars and dispersed throughout the cosmos. This cosmic journey from stars to us illuminates our deep connection to the universe.
