Across the country, more of our American Indian brothers and sisters are standing up, speaking out, and reclaiming who we truly are. For generations, many of our elders knew the truth of our indigenous heritage, but fear, shame, pressure, and reclassification caused many to stay silent.
Now the youth are helping bring that truth back to the surface.
This video is about pride, remembrance, and reclamation. It is about honoring the elders who always knew, encouraging the young people who are boldly speaking up, and celebrating every American Indian brother and sister who is no longer afraid to stand in their true identity.
The terms “Black,” “African American,” and other labels have been used as reclassifications, but more of our people are beginning to understand that these titles do not erase our ancestry, our roots, our bloodline, or our original identity.
Chief Steve speaks from a place of pride, love, and truth for the people. This is a message of encouragement to everyone who is waking up, researching, remembering, and reclaiming their American Indian heritage out loud.
