Lindsay Clancy's psychological evaluations showed no signs that she was faking her mental health struggles, according to a psychologist who has seen her more than 50 times since the deaths of her children in January 2023.
Dr. Paul Zeizel, a clinical and forensic psychologist testifying for the defense, was adamant Tuesday that Clancy was not faking or exaggerating symptoms of what her attorneys argue was postpartum psychosis.
Zeizel first evaluated Clancy in a hospital shortly after she killed her three children and then attempted to take her own life. Zeizel said testing designed in part to detect deception or exaggeration showed no evidence she was fabricating her symptoms.
Zeizel also addressed Clancy's claim that she heard a male voice commanding her to kill the children and herself. Zeizel said he was present days later when Clancy told Patrick Clancy about the voice during a speakerphone call.
Investigators previously questioned whether Zeizel may have coached Clancy or influenced her account of hearing the voice. He flatly denied it.
His testimony is a key part of the defense effort to show Clancy was severely mentally ill and not criminally responsible for the deaths of Cora, Dawson and Callan.
