AKheon | Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate - Retreat from Mt. Niutou in 5:09.88 @AKheon | Uploaded October 2020 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.

This is another escort mission and seemingly a very inconsistent level. The tactic I use in this run shouldn't be optimal, yet none of my other attempts with this OR other tactics came as close. So I'll just upload this for now, maybe I'll revisit this level again at some later date.

0:00 - Alright, so I figured, this is a level where I have to push an NPC, so I might as well go all-in on the horse tactics and take three Thrift-characters and Matsukaze / Red Hare with me.
It would be possible to reach Lu Meng faster at the start by using Benkei, but as mentioned, all of the attempts where I did so mysteriously lost time somewhere else in the level, resulting in 10-20 seconds slower runs.
I guess a third alternative to getting to Lu Meng would be to infinite jump over the broken bridge. This would be the most direct route, but it would require a different party, and I think the invisible wall is high enough that getting over it would be slower than by just using Benkei.
0:28 - There's a mysterious glitch where the screen fade-out stays on for fairly long if you do a horse boost right before it. Time seems to be running during this time, so if anything, it just hurts my run a little bit since I can't see while the screen is dark.
0:44 - I dialogue wait these lines, although I'm honestly not sure if it's even necessary.
1:19 - Meeting Lu Meng, the various messages can happen in different orders depending on the level timing. The important thing is that Lu Meng won't start moving towards the next point until you get the message for it after some dialogue, so here dialogue waiting does most likely help.
1:30 - Then, I attempt to horse push Lu Meng to the next objective as quickly as possible. The horse pushing doesn't even look very smooth on some of my other attempts, which once again raises the question why this run in particular was so fast.
2:48 - There's an ambush where the officer spawns inside the garrison one message before the doors open. I tried whether it might be slightly faster to infinite jump inside the garrison to defeat the officer early, but I don't think so. You have to wait out some of the messages to get Lu Meng moving again anyway... right?
3:07 - NPC Pushing Part 2: The Pushening
3:36 - Inside the next garrison there is a small ambush where you have to defeat two officers total.
After this point Lu Meng's A.I. switches over to "follow", which means that staying close to him will prompt him to fight nearby enemies and you can't really push him very well. The only option is to get to the end level and wait for him to follow you there.
The level ending trigger is when Lu Meng walks into over the last bridge after you have defeated Kotaru Fuma, so for now there's no way to speed things up in this level.
If you're unlucky, Lu Meng can get stuck on unfought crowds of enemies right before he reaches the destination, so if you want to be sure, it might help to lure the enemies to the west instead of waiting in the corner here.
