I've been wanting to make this animaiton since last year's collab. The movements and animation of the original video is simple, I felt I could easily reenact it with my 'paper puppet' style.
It was much more complicated than expected, my After Effects project file is just a tree of absolute madness. There's only one instance of Noriko. I had multiple copies of her through layer and composition madness. If I moved any Noriko parts in one composition, it would affect all the others down the line. I was only moving one Noriko to make the visuals in a bunch of compositions move.
It eventually came to the point where I had to go through mental gymnastics just to figure out how to move one composition without screwing over any other ones. During the Noriko conga line at the end, I originally wanted each Noriko to have a different expression, but couldn't do so without messing up the entire project.
Something else I did was try to animate Yuka, Tenshi, and Iku in different ways, to add more personality to them. Iku slides about, she's supposed to be moon walking, Tenshi is supposed to be high energy, so she bounces higher than the others. Yuka has a very plain expression, with plain movements, since she's there just to watch Noriko, not really to participate.
Fun fact:
There's also only a single instance of the giant fish. The way it's edited in, while it's face up, it doesn't have a tail, it gets cut of by the edge of the screen on the original composition, the tail only shows up when it moves to the other side of the composition. I used layers to hide the missing tail.
