Evidence-based training (EBT) is being widely adopted within the industries like aviation and relates to the assessment of trainee capability across a range of core competencies. Non-technical competencies are very difficult for instructors to assess. Solution of Training Aircrew Competency using Eye Tracking (TACET) tackles this problem by using Tobii eye tracking technology integrated into simulated Virtual Reality training scenarios. The system gives insight into the cognitive, psychological, and behavioral processes that underpin trainee performance and enables the covert and autonomous assessment of trainee competency.
In this talk, we discussed the development processes involved in creating such solutions, explored the scientific rationale for using eye tracking to index competency, and presented results from some initial testing and validation of the system.
