So many things to caveat here, but you know the drill. It's the vPub and it's me, so despite the explosion in global whisky and new distilleries popping up daily I need to dial this into the Scotch scene, and even there I'm still out of my depth.
I consider myself a whisky geek, but it's not easy to keep up with the recent developments in whisky - even in my own 'backyard'. It's a regular occurrence that I hear of a brand-new distillery or forget one that's still in some state of development. So let's make it easier.
Let's focus on those that have released whisky to date.
That's a little simpler to track and contextualise because there's a tangible, available (sometimes!) product. Not to everyone, not everywhere, I know. But, I guarantee you that regardless of your ability to be able to buy a fresh bottle of something never-before-seen to you, these releases are changing whisky; the perspectives, the attitudes and the ranges we buy.
So I'll let you decide what gets opened, and I'll pick a few that I think should be talked about as I share why I personally think things are being altered by the arrival of these new suitors - and how it could change the incumbents we've been buying.
