Hard to believe it's already been one year since I started making clarinet covers o.O Hopefully I'll be able to continue doing so for many more XD Thanks for all the support (400 subs w00t!)--I definitely couldn't have made it this far without you guys :D And so, I figured this was a very appropriate song to cover.
What a bloody awesome, upbeat and catchy tune! :) Ever since I saw the amazing Google Chrome commercial, I'd been planning to do a cover of this--and only now did I manage to find the time for it.
I thought this would be an extremely straightforward cover, but turns out I vastly underestimated the difficulty of the continual 3-voice harmonies. After having to re-record so many times to correct the tuning and rhythms, I'd say this was a hugely challenging cover orz. And from that, I learned that I'm quite terrible at counting XD In any case, I'm pretty relieved it all worked out.
As you can see, I tried a close-mic setup this time. I didn't think it was possible for clarinet, but apparently you just have to place the mic over the lower tone holes, not the bell. And though the dynamics are a bit more uneven as a result, the purity of tone is improved :)
It's worth noting that the harmonies in this song are freaking weird (with a ton of parallel chords between the three voices)...not sure if it's cause kz just doesn't know much theory, or he wanted to create that slightly dissonant texture. Definitely forced me to mix the harmonies very low though XD

Looks like Im on a covering spree :)
Nodame Cantabile is one of my absolute favorite animes, and I think that any music lover should give it a shot! Its comedy gold, theres lots of drama, and of course the music is great ^_^ I highly recommend it to everyone, even if you dont like classical (cause you might just be able to appreciate it afterwards :P)
I tried a completely different recording setup this time, hooking the piano up to the stereo system, and recording with my Behringer mic, rather than the camera. Its a much improved sound for the most part, though next time I might try the bass attenuation switch XD
Im still pretty nervous and spastic when recording piano, and as such my rubato sounds a bit more forced than usual, and theres not as much variation in dynamics as Id like :( Definitely working on that though, so hopefully the next piano piece I plan on playing will sound better (oh, and its one beastly piece XD)

After getting the sudden urge to watch Angel Beats dubbed over the past few days, I figured it would be fitting to cover this very nice song. Its a good show (but easily couldve been better, given its Jun Maeda), and I highly recommend it to all who have yet to see it.
In this video I decided to try out an old microphone that I found, and boy is the sound an improvement over my cameras mic! This is how a clarinet is supposed to sound like gone is the super harsh and grainy sound from before. But on the downside, its sensitive enough to pick up whats playing from my headphones. I also tried recording closer to my clarinet to reduce reverb, and unfortunately thats how those unnatural crescendos and clips happened (me swinging my horn too close to the thing) ^ ^;
If you look closely you might notice slight differences between the video and audio thats cause these were done on two separate takes. In the first take (the video), I managed to screw up my microphone settings so the sound was utter garbage, and on the second take, my camera ran out of memory half-way through OTL. I was a bit annoyed, to say the least, and so I just took the visual from the first one and synched it to the sound XD.
No sheets this time, but you should be able to do it by ear. Its in an easy key for the most part and its quite slow. Well, enjoy, and look forwards to some more Angel Beats covers =)")
