Removing cores and anything else of value from these stinkers before they are binned.

This is one from my own collection that I have now deposited with the national archives.
It seems to be a bit of a mixed bag of newsreel segments from roughly the same period spliced together. Mostly Universal but with a couple of Gaumont pieces. Good examples unilateral variable area track amongst bits of others. The two tiny pieces of density track on the planes segment is awful, I did what I could. Im not 100% sure if the major visible damage is base decomposition or from water but the film is certainly starting to distort making the picture a bit lumpy in places. Im glad to have it out of the house now.
Interestingly this appears to be largely comprised of Foley and voiceover, including what I think is the faked football ground announcer.
This is one of the more complex post processing tasks I have completed. Since the tracking software can not gracefully handle large changes in the film appearance like, for example, dots suddenly appearing in between sprocket holes, the film was broken up into segments and tracked individually then put back together.
Segments I can definitely date are:
- Shakespeares Birthday 26th April 1937
- King George V monument 23rd April 1937
- Arsenal Vs. Man City 12th March 1932
- 1932 FA Cup Final 23rd April 1932
- Marriage of Duke and Duchess of Kent 29th November 1934")

Full frame scan of a flat aspect trailer. Not much interesting happening outside the frame on this one except the boom mic 0:42 at but still nice to see without projection aperture plate.
I tried some experiments on the cyan track which are known to be noisy using AEO-Light (and old fashioned white light projector sound readers). I removed the colour from the track and bumped up the contrast. Turned out quite nice with the exception of a couple of moments of clipping at the very end, even though the entire waveform was within the capture area (and also mono!). I do remember even on the projector that part was really hot.")

This ad was on nearly every single ad pack that we built and played around this time, the soundtrack is etched into my brain as the last thing to play before dimming the house lights for trailers.
Sadly, Im still fighting the annoying red and blue flashes which I _think_ is the Raspberry Pi automatic white balance playing up. the setting is always turned off but apparently this is still not enough and there is some very low level compensation still taking place.")

Ive had this one on a larger core for about 10 years and its still pretty badly warped. I dont know if it will ever be perfect.
It certainly presents better than it did on the old upload played through the projector. The sound isnt as badly warped anyway.")

I cant remember if we got any complaints about this from patrons at the cinema but the TVC did from memory, they were dismissed by the regulatory board.
In British/Australian slang the term beaver refers to part of the female anatomy, Im not sure if this is universal.
The video source, probably 25 or 30fps is evident in what I believe are some weird pulldown artefacts.
The soundtrack has some sibilance in the VO that I was not able to get rid of and seems to be an issue with the soundtrack itself. This is not unheard of, advertising was known to arrive at the cinema with bad lab soundtracks around this time.")

5-perf overscan along with just about the rattiest leader Ive ever seen. Im sure this thing saw its fair share of the floor of a bio box. Good demonstration of the DTS timecode between the picture and analog track.
The tracking on the actual DTS tag is unfortunately pretty crap and bouncy owing to a general lack of any definition (were not putting any damn Dolby soundtrack on our tag!) between the sprocket holes which is the area I most commonly use for motion tracking stabilisation.
The projectionist has cut out the beep and replaced with white leader that says OPEN. (dowser)
The only cinema I ever worked as projectionist that had DTS was the Como Theatre so it must have been from the scrap pile there.
