Kawagoe is a traditional Japanese town, just a 30 minute train ride away from Tokyo. A trip to Kawagoe transports you back in time as you wander past traditional Edo buildings, wear a kimono and try Japanese sweets.
Kawagoe is definitely a worthy trip if you live in Japan, however, if you are coming to the country for travel you may be asking if Kawagoe is a worthwhile side trip from Tokyo.
Our opinion: if you are already going to places like Kyoto or Takayama and you're not that interested in traditional Japan then you could give Kawagoe a miss. However, if you have a lot of time in Tokyo and you love seeing Japan's history then you will probably love Kawagoe!
