Playthrough of the Big Forest course. The Switch version of Virtua Racing was released in 2019. It’s based on the arcade version but makes some major improvements to it, the main one being that it now runs at 60 frames per second (the arcade version ran at 30). The draw distance was also changed so the entire track is always displayed, the arcade version had pop-in where bits of the circuit would magically appear in the distance as you drove forward.
You’ve then got the multiplayer features. You can, incredibly, get up to 8 players splitscreen on one console. The framerate halves if you have 3 players or more but it’s still a great feature. It’s got online multiplayer too. Other features include a “helper” mode where collisions with other cars are disabled and online leaderboards. I played a replay after the race as a new piece of music was composed for this version -it’s the replay music from the 32X version, but it sounds even better here.
Big Forest is the beginner track, and it’s really easy to get 1st place on it. There is a colossal difficulty spike for getting 1st place on the other two tracks, but I’ll get into that on the next videos.
