ViaTunisia is a new 1,050-km submarine system connecting Marseille (France) and Bizerte (Tunisia) to meet rapidly growing data traffic between the two regions. Led by Orange S.A. and supported by CEF Digital, the system uses three fibre pairs - each capable of 24 Tbps - to provide a total capacity of 72 Tbps, far exceeding the capabilities of existing routes. The design prioritises open access for Tunisian operators, ensuring affordable, high-performance international connectivity. Developed together with the Medusa Submarine Cable System, the project introduces a customer-centred approach to cable design, covering landing sites, capacity profiles, protection schemes and long-term service models. Once operational, ViaTunisia will enhance Europe–Africa digital links, strengthen Tunisia’s international bandwidth availability and foster competitive wholesale markets through dark fibre access.
