I heard about just about a week or so prior to our trip to the U.K. and thought this was a "must", so we rearranged some plans and drove from Conway, Wales to Preston, England, followed by leaving early the next morning to catch our climb at this amazing place!
And amazing it was! I had zero idea about the history of the mine where slated was mined from. And not just any slate, but some of the highest quality slate found in the entire world!
If you haven't done a "via ferrata" before, it means "iron road" or something similar in Italian. It is a way for soldiers to climb up and down cliffs with relative ease during World War 2. Now, it's become not a tool for war, but rather recreation pursuit.
I personally have been on a few in Utah (USA) but not internationally. And come to find out, this is the only one offered in England. Around $80 or $90/person in USD, it was worth the cost to do this quite fun adventure.
