Another vegetable review, this time of the very excellent Japanese frying pepper, the Shishito pepper. It is closely related and similar to the Padron pepper of tapas fame.
This pepper is delicious, easy to grow, very productive and early. Its a fantastic pepper for short season growing as the peppers are early and harvested in the green stage.
We also demonstrate the simplest cooking method for them and test the flavor of the typical green shishito and some ripened ones, the conclusion is that ripe shishitos are mildly spicy and very sweet! So if you can't handle some moderate heat, keep them picked well.
