After stacking my first cord, I quickly noticed that the shape of an axe-cut piece of firewood has a perfect shape for shedding water if you orient it with the barkside facing up and the pith/center facing down on most pieces.

I happened to see some water dripping off the rick from snowmelt and thought I would get a video demonstrating this.
