Vaults 101 is 1 of the first parkour videos I ever made (early 2005). It’s also the worst *and* best video I ever made 😂
At the time, it was a challenge to find anyone to train with or learn from, online or IRL. I couldn’t find anyone in Colorado. YouTube didn’t exist yet. The best parkour videos were hiding all over the Internet. Some took all night to download on my dial-up modem!
I made Vaults 101 because I was so excited to learn more parkour. I thought vaults were extra cool. I was amazed to see so many variations. I wanted to collect all of the vaults to study and share!
I was still a parkour newbie, and also new to making videos. Stumbling my way around Windows Movie Maker produced these glorious results 💀 We’ve come a long way since!
While I never uploaded Vaults 101 to YouTube, a few random accounts shared it over the years. Apparently, lots of people found it useful at some point in their parkour journeys.
After Jason Paul mentioned Vaults 101 a few days ago, I was surprised to hear how many people remembered the video but didn’t know I made it. Makes sense since I didn’t use my real name in the video!
Instead, I made it under the name “Demon”—my Urban Freeflow forum login, aka your parkour name. When signing up for UFF, I never thought the name would stick with me for years. I simply chose “Demon” because it was my high school mascot and I didn’t know what else to use 🤷♂️
It makes me happy to know that people still think fondly of Vaults 101. It’s comically bad by today’s standards but also proof of how much parkour has developed since 2005. Here’s to finally giving it a belated but permanent home on my YouTube channel!
