Kings and Generals and Wizards and Warriors animated lore documentary series on the world of Tolkien - Middle-Earth continues with a video on the strategy of the Valar as how they wanted to defeat Sauron. Previously we discussed the grand strategy of Sauron and what was his plan to win the war (youtu.be/Ylr4JR9909Q). By the late Third Age, Sauron stood on the brink of total victory. His armies dwarfed those of the Free Peoples, and no alliance of Elves, Men, or Dwarves could defeat him by force alone. Yet Sauron fell. Why? In this video, we explore the hidden forces that shaped the War of the Ring, focusing on Gandalf, the Valar, the Istari, and the role of divine providence in Tolkien’s legendarium. Drawing on Tolkien’s Catholic worldview, we examine how Eru Ilúvatar, fate, free will, and mercy guided events beyond any mortal strategy. From the missions of the Blue Wizards and Saruman’s betrayal, to the White Council, the Fellowship, and Gandalf’s sacrifice and return as Gandalf the White, this is the unseen history behind Sauron’s defeat. This is the story of how Middle-earth was saved—not by power, but by purpose.
