College readiness doesn’t start on move-in day.
UW-Milwaukee’s ROAR Ready initiative helps K–12 students and families explore college, build confidence and prepare for future careers — starting early.
In this video, UW-Milwaukee sophomore Suheidy Montenegro Nevarez, a first-generation college student, shares how early exposure to campus through UWM programs helped her earn college credits, feel a sense of belonging and envision a future in higher education.
ROAR Ready (Roadmap for Opportunity, Achievement and College Readiness) brings together more than 200 youth programs at UW-Milwaukee — including campus tours, academic enrichment, career exploration and family engagement — into one coordinated framework.
ROAR Ready focuses on three pillars:
• Academic enrichment through hands-on learning in reading, math and science.
• Career exploration to help students discover interests and future pathways.
• Belonging, so students feel connected to a college campus early on.
