Jeff, an information science and technology student from Milwaukee, has gotten to explore a wide range of classes within the IST field at UW-Milwaukee, such as cybersecurity and data analytics. Within the last couple of years, that diverse academic experience has helped Jeff figure out what he wants to do after he graduates. Reflecting on what advice he would give to new students, he says, “Take initiative, talk to people, talk to your professors.”
A standout experience during Jeff’s time at UWM was being a team lead within the Nonprof-IT program, which pairs teams of UWM students with local nonprofits that need IT solutions and tech support. Nonprof-IT projects include website creation or redesign, social media and online marketing, database and network improvements and technology assessment. That kind of hands-on experiences helps students prepare for a successful career after they receive their degree.
