Electric vehicles supposedly DOMINATED July's fastest-selling used car rankings, with four EVs appearing in Brego's Fastest Five.
Predictably, the headline has already been seized upon as evidence that used EV demand is booming.
But there's a rather awkward problem...
Brego's own analysis warns against making exactly that conclusion.
Buried beneath the headline is the crucial distinction between the fastest-selling individual derivatives and the performance of an entire fuel type.
Brego's Rupert Pontin makes the point himself: performance remains highly derivative-specific, and broad assumptions around fuel type can be misleading.
So why is a report warning against generalising about EV demand being used to generalise about EV demand?

Sometimes you only need to read a few paragraphs beyond the headline to discover that the report itself is considerably more nuanced than the social-media victory lap.
