The P-40 was the United States best fighter at the start of World War II. It engaged Japanese aircraft during the Pearl Harbor attack and in the Philippines. Its service with the Flying Tigers in made it legendary. During the war the P-40 was replaced by newer and more capable fighter aircraft. The aircraft the National Museum of the United States Air Force is painted to represent the aircraft flown by Col. Bruce Holloway while with the Flying Tigers.
