In WWII The US was seeking for more precision pin-point weapons to attack heavily defended hardened targets. These stand off weapons could be deployed remote from the facilities AA defenses. The US developed and deployed the GB-4 remote controlled TV guided missile. B-17s, carrying GB-4s, were sent to destroy Axis targets in August, 1944 and Sept, 1944. The results were underwhelming. None of the missiles struck their intended targets. This was due to equipment failure, and poor visibility conditions.
