American flag was taken down from the US Consulate General as its staffers leave at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia in St. Petersburg on Saturday.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made an announcement on Thursday that the US Consulate General in Saint Petersburg would be shut down, as a tit-for-tat measure following the expulsion of 60 Russian diplomats from the US.
These actions come following the poisoning of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury. The UK has blamed Moscow for the incident, while Russia has denied any involvement in the affair.
