DW News | US calls for cease-fire as Israel prepares for potential ground assault on Lebanon | DW News @dwnews | Uploaded September 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 week ago.
The US, France, Arab nations and most G7 countries have issued a statement calling for an immediate 21-day cease-fire across the Israel-Lebanon border. The call comes after a major escalation in the conflict that has seen thousands of Israeli strikes across southern and eastern Lebanon as well as the capital Beirut, leaving hundreds dead. Hezbollah has also fired barrages of rockets into Israel. While efforts to secure a cease-fire continue, Israel's army chief has put troops on alert for a possible ground invasion into Lebanon.
