Five years of declining campaign revenue are forcing the United Way of Central New York to reduce funding for several local nonprofits, leaving some organizations searching for new ways to maintain services.
United Way said its campaign revenue has fallen by an average of 11% each year over the last five years. The organization previously used investment funds to help maintain funding for community partners, but said that was never intended to be a permanent solution.
Funding is now tied more directly to the amount raised through its annual campaign.
