7. Navigating the Fast-Forward Effect in Childhood
Kid-centric content that pushes wonder and weirdness can counteract the fast-forward effect which is shortening childhood and making kids’ lives more serious than they need to be.

The window of childhood is getting shorter. Formed from a combination of financial worry, the increasingly early onset of puberty, unlimited access to social media and now the adoption of AI, the ‘fast-forward effect’ is challenging parents and caregivers to prepare their children for adulthood sooner.

Childhood has become heavily intertwined with the seriousness of the modern world, with learning and storytelling experiences leaning towards moralistic purpose-driven tools, to help children navigate the complexities of life.

It is leading to a widespread yearning to bring awe, wonder and even weirdness back into children’s worlds. Join TrendBible at The Children’s Media Conference and learn how to navigate the ‘fast-forward effect’ in childhood and experiment with new and relevant kid-centric narratives.

8. What? Take my phone away? But I’m 12!
How are 7-16-year olds really using the internet?

The media landscape often attracts headlines directly associated with children’s mental health, particularly since lockdown, and once again, Family, Kids & Youth (FK&Y) have taken a close look at what children are currently really doing online.

Launched back in 2018, their ongoing Wellbeing and the Internet study, explores the benefits, the drawbacks, and the impact that online media is having on children and young people.
