One of the things we have been most excited for while traveling in Singapore is to go on a food tour! Singaporean food is said to be some of the best in the world, and so many of the country's most famous dishes come from hawker stalls. If you also love food and want to book the same tour with A Chef's Tour, just click here: google.com/url?q=https://achefstour.com/tour/singapore-food-tour/?trackingCode%3Dd56d6fff31de4403b36c95bb862d06dd&sa=D&source=editors&ust=1691856452358947&usg=AOvVaw0kYMdvfbXj2WwqSRAMWdd1

If you haven't heard of a hawker center before, not to worry! A hawker Centre is a covered area where many low-cost food stalls (i.e. hawker stalls) are set up to serve delicious food. The type of food is similar to the street food you can find in many other parts of the world - the dishes are generally small (although not always), meant to be cooked quickly, and are very affordable! Hawker Centers were created to have a clean place for street food vendors to cook, and now these centers are home to some of the best foods in the world!

We tried 10 different foods in this video, and so many of them were Michelin recommended dishes, right from the hawker stalls. Our first stop was at the Maxwell Hawker Centre in Singapore's Chinatown where we tried ngoh hiang, rojak, popiah, kopi with kaya toast, ondeh ondeh, and Hainanese chicken rice! Then we hopped on the metro with our guide Priscilla, and went to Singapore's Little India for the famous Michelin recommended biriyani dish that is served at the Tekka Centre. After spending 2 months in India in 2022, we have become very familiar with good (and bad) biriyani, and we thought this one was amazing! To finish off the tour, we visited Haji Lane in Kampong Glam for some Turkish kadayif and apple tea.

Trying Singaporean food for the first time through a food tour was such a great way to understand the cuisine in a short amount of time. With less than a week in the city, we knew we wouldn't have enough time to explore Singaporean food well enough on our own. What makes Singaporean food so interesting and also a bit difficult to explore independently is the diversity of the dishes. With people from all over the world immigrating to Singapore, the food scene is incredibly varied, and taking a food tour allowed us to get a taste of many cuisines today, most notably Chinese, Malaysian, Indian, and Turkish. It was amazing!
