Pretty much ever since I found out about the volumetric explosion in the Infiltrator Demo I have wondered how such a thing might be done, because UE4 to my knowledge does not support 3D Textures. Now I sat down spent the time to create a material that emulates 3d textures by using 2d animated textures. The result is alright, but I still have a lot of artifacts from MipMaps and also the original texture is not that great either.
Maybe I will sit down again some time to overhaul it.
