I hope you don't mind if I nerd out for a bit, because I am REALLY excited about the new Wheel of Time TV show that is schedule to release TOMORROW. I've been reading the books for quite literally decades. I first started reading them when I was in 5th grade and the series finished when I was about to turn 30. It's been a huge part of my life and I'm thrilled the books are getting a chance to find a new audience through this show.
So in honor of the books and the new series, I decided to put a Randland spin on the classic sour formula. We know that wine and brandy are both common beverages in the books, so why not make a cocktail that incorporates both?
I hope you'll shake up a few Two Rivers sours for the premiere of "The Wheel of Time" on Amazon Prime. (Btw, they're not paying me to promo the show this much, I'm just really excited!)
TWO RIVERS SOUR
2 oz brandy
1 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz simple syrup (1:1, sugar:water)
2 dashes Angostura
1/2 oz red wine floated on top
Combine all ingredients except the red wine and shake with ice. Strain into a double rocks glass over fresh ice. Float red wine over top of the cocktail using the back of your barspoon. Brandied cherry is an optional garnish.
