Today’s video is all about our pigs coming back from the butcher! Todd and I are excited to show you how we’re prepping and storing all the pork from the two pigs we raised this year. I started the morning by clearing out our freezer to make room, pulling out tomatoes, chicken scraps, and lard to process later. We raised three Herford-Berkshire pigs, and after sending one to our kids, we got back two hogs, both weighing in at 152 lbs hanging weight. In this video, we take you through the process of unloading and organizing all the cuts—pork chops, ham steaks, ribs, and even leaf lard for baking. We also tried something new this year, getting Italian and cheddar sausages, though we forgot to order ground pork. Our freezers are now fully stocked, and this amount of pork will last us about two years. We even had some leftovers from last year’s hog to give to our kids! Raising our own meat has been such a rewarding experience, and while it can be costly, the quality and knowing how the animals were raised make it all worth it. Thanks for joining us on this journey, and if you haven’t yet, don’t forget to subscribe for more homestead updates!
