About the virus:
I think that a lot of people are seeing the disruption as something like an extended snow day type deal where you get a few days off and go back to work and everything will be fine. And they also put a lot of faith in the government (the replacement for mommy and daddy in their adulthood) to swoop in and save the day. But I believe this has already progressed well beyond that point.
The fact is that the economy (despite everything you've heard over the last year) was already very weak when this started and was on the verge of a large recession. The virus just accelerated that and the response to it has made it many times worse. It will take a very long time for the global economy to recover from this - decades, perhaps.
This could have been prevented to some degree. Instead of chasing the climate change phantom for the past 10 years, the governments could have been setting up a plan to deal with exactly what's happening right now. They had plenty of warning, but I guess there's not much vote buying currency in wanting to do something about a real threat if it doesn't have a huge, fanatical base of religious-like followers attached.
There are lesson that can be learned from this, but as usual it's very unlikely they will be.
