Turning Pain Into Policy: Community-First Advocacy! As a Legislative Advocate and longtime community partner in Evanston, my work has always been guided by a commitment to service and justice.
Over the past decade, I have worked closely with the community, listening to residents and turning their concerns into tangible action. By God’s grace, I co-authored legislation with State Representative La Shawn K. Ford to amend Illinois’ Black History curriculum to include pre-enslavement history, ensuring a fuller, more truthful education for future generations.
I also helped co-author the Inclusive American History Bill, which became part of the Black Caucus agenda and was signed into law by Governor Pritzker in 2021.
Today, I continue this work through initiatives like the Evanston Property Tax & Rent Circuit Breaker Program, a partnership with Councilmember Clare Kelly aimed at supporting long-term residents facing financial hardship.
This work is ongoing. The assignment continues.
