The tunnels in layers ..., -3, 0, 3, 6, ... are above each other, just like the tunnels in layers ..., -2, 1, 4,... and in layers ..., -1, 2, 5, ... . The tunnels are triangular at top and bottom and these triangles are rotated over 60 degrees compared to each other.
