The Morung Lecture XXIII, on the theme "Truth and Integrity in Naga Public Life," was jointly organized by The Morung Express and the Research and Development Cell of Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, on August 19, at Hotel Japfü, #Kohima. The lecture featured Lithrongla G Chishi (Retired IAS) and Kahoto J Yepthomi (IAAS) as resource speakers.

Following the lecture, we spoke with Dr Benri Patton and Gugs Chishi to hear their reflections on the day's theme.

On how he would define truth and integrity in Naga public life, Dr Patton said Naga society has drifted from its roots, with today's institutions increasingly shaping how people think and live. He called for a return to the honesty and truthfulness once seen in village life, as taught by our forefathers, as the foundation for a better society.

Sharing his views on what needs to change for truth and integrity to grow stronger in Naga public life, Gugs Chishi traced how Naga identity took shape over the years, built on a shared sense of unity that has since grown divided. He said Naga society was once built on honesty and integrity without needing to prove it, and called for this culture to be revived as the basis for the future of Naga society.
