President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to increase tariffs on Canadian cars, trucks, auto parts and steel to 50% beginning Jan. 1, 2027, escalating his trade dispute with Canada days after negotiations between the countries collapsed.
Trump announced in a Truth Social post, accusing Canada of imposing excessive tariffs on American farmers and farm products and contributing to what he said was a $60 billion trade deficit.
“Not sustainable, and NOT ANYMORE!” Trump wrote.
