In this video we refurbish a pair of Tandy Portable Disk Drives for the Model 100/102/200. They are sort of an odd duck, a battery powered, serially interfaced, 3.5” drive with only a 100K or 200K capacity. For this video we have one of each type. They seem even weirder when you find out they for originally built for electronic knitting machines. While both need the belts replaced after we open them up we find unique problems with each of them.
We’ll show the procedure for belt replacement, some plastic case repair techniques and even battery leakage repair. After they are fixed up we’ll test both drives to make sure they can format disks, as well as write and read files.
