A fast power metal track, inspired by DragonForce. Blood Rush was my first musical contribution to the Doom community, and the first track I wrote after when I took up composition as a main hobby.
When I launched this channel with "A New Beginning," I mentioned how the MIDI of that track led to me being invited to work on the Plutonia MIDI Pack, where we were giving the Final Doom level pack an original soundtrack, as it had lacked one. I picked MAP12: Speed, to write a music track for, figuring it would suit me well because hey, I liked DragonForce!
The original draft was at a tempo of 220bpm. Had it stayed there, it would still be my fastest track today, but after feedback from others working on the project, it ended up reduced to 194 - ironically this meant that a map called Speed didn't get the fastest MIDI in the pack (that honour went to Massacre Machine by Lippeth, I think).
Though my fondness for my work waned towards the end of the project having made a (imho) superior piece in "Cry of Desperation," Blood Rush was the first track I ever made to reappear in a later WAD, when it accompanied MAP09 of 50 Shades of Graytall.
My main gripes, looking back on the track is that the drums were not well sequenced, and the melodies were questionable in places. I took the opportunity to deal with those for this version. Overall, this was a nightmare to remake, it took a lot of tweaking over 3 weeks to get it sounding presentable, having settled for sequenced guitars after finding I was unable to play even the rhythm guitar parts (I really am that terrible!). As it is now, it's still not perfect, but I figured it's decent enough. I don't think I could stand working on this any longer :P
So yeah, sorry this took such a long time. Up next is Cry of Desperation, a much simpler track that should be pretty straightforward to redo, so that should be out before the month's out.
