Today I'm going to tear down a transformer for use in my electronic/crystal radio/antenna work. It's not hard if you know the tricks.
WARNING: Removing transformers from appliances, etc. can result in shock or electrocution. NEVER work on a live circuit. Many circuits contain devices that can store and release fatal electric shocks. If you don't know, learn first, or DO NOT DO IT! Some transformers contain toxic materials and represent a serious health hazard. Never open seal transformers that may contain such chemicals. If there are strange smells or oily substances present, stop and dispose of it immediately.
Transformers can have points and sharp edges. Use proper personal protection as needed for dust, hand/eye/face protection.
