This video uses computer simulations to show how RNA polymerase transcribes DNA into RNA.

Genetic messages called genes are stored in DNA molecules. These messages are copied into RNA molecules during a process called genetic transcription. An enzyme called RNA polymerase temporarily unzips a DNA molecule and copies the template strand of DNA into a single stranded RNA molecule.

The transcription model from the Concord Consortium can be manipulated by users to alter the sequence of DNA that will be transcribed and translated.

The second animation is from HHMI BioInteractive. It has been edited to match the orientation of a classroom model used to teach transcription and translation.
