For Bruce Ario, it wasn't enough to quit drinking, find a job, improve his mental health, and fix his homelessness. He needed purpose, above all, to make sure these changes stuck. He found these through writing, God, and a service-oriented life, yet it was his poetry which defined Bruce and left a world-class legacy.
"From There To There: Bruce Ario, The Minneapolis Poet" is an upcoming documentary on the life and work of Bruce Ario (1955 - 2022), creator of the "ario" poetic form. It was shot on-scene in Minneapolis, is full of rich city imagery, and features interviews with those who knew him. The film deals with questions of meaning, addiction, mental wellness, and the role art plays in human healing.
