Trucks and passenger cars are more often than not overloaded; a load on the roof that is taller than the vehicle itself is no exception. Minibuses carry far more passengers than they are designed for, with passengers often sitting on the roof or hanging out of the rear door. A steering wheel and an engine are the only essential parts of a car; the rest is a luxury. Drivers merge in and out of traffic without paying attention to other vehicles, because time is money.
Sometimes the roads are fine; sometimes they’re potholes patched with bits of tarmac laid years ago without a proper foundation and never maintained.
Tyres are only replaced once they’ve burst, and maintenance is carried out only when the car really won’t move any further. Tinkering with the vehicle on the roadside when you’re stranded is usually the only solution, but sometimes a lorry ends up by the side of the road, serving as a wake-up call for other road users.
Moped taxis are a fast means of transport, but of course only if the driver isn’t held up by other traffic. After all, as an invincible young man, you can weave in and out and shoot past everything – or so you think.
