Earlier this year I posted a video showcasing the demo for this game on Normal mode. I initially said it was a little easy, with the caveat that I was playing on Normal like I usually do with Touhou games, and that harder difficulties, especially Lunatic, would kick my butt.
_Anyway I beat the game on Lunatic._
Yeah...I'll be honest, this game is a little on the easy side. I don't think it's any one quirk that makes it easy, though I suspect it's a combination of the patterns being lenient, bombs and lives being plentiful and the manual borders regenerating a little too quickly on top of the borders activating automatically like in PCB. Granted, it still gave me somewhat of a challenge on Lunatic, so I still had fun, but I don't think I'd be singing the same tune if I were playing on Normal or even Hard. (Supposedly Ultra mode will fix this...)
The presentation is still great, though! I liked all the different backgrounds and sprites, the music (both original and remixes) sounded excellent, I liked a lot of the setpieces in stages (specifically, I loved the high-speed section in Stage 3), and some of the later spellcards are honestly really cool! (Special mention goes to Reisen's final spellcard and the space station survival card during the final boss!) The story was nice, though admittedly I haven't beaten FDF1 or played FDF2 so I'm not sure how this fits into the timeline (if it even exists).
Even if it is a little easy, I still had fun playing it! Might revisit it with the other characters at some point.

...Ill admit, this totally blindsided me. For those out of the loop, an official remake of Touhou Koumakyou ~ Embodiment of Scarlet Devil just got announced this week, AND its coming out in most languages on Steam and most consoles! I got caught off guard because, while I did have a Touhou remix ready for today, its completely unrelated to EoSD. As such, I decided to postpone posting that other Touhou remix for now and instead arrange a song from EoSD itself to celebrate!

Ive wanted to arrange this song for some time now, since I felt it would work really well in the N163 sound chip. This song debuted in SMT1, but it got an extended version starting in Shin Megami Tensei if, so thats what this version is based off of. Hope you enjoy!
