The Chevrolet Blazer scores points with its edgy styling and powerful V6 engine option, but that's not enough to challenge rival SUVs that are more practical and convenient.
Honda Pilot.
The 2025 Honda Pilot is one of our favorite three-row SUVs. It has a robust V6 engine that produces 285 horsepower, a spacious interior, and lots of cargo space. The Pilot was redesigned in 2023, receiving several updates, including larger dimensions, some rugged exterior looks, and an updated infotainment system.
2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport.
These rivals all have their distinct advantages, but the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport represents a well-rounded choice that gets most of the fundamentals right. With the exception of clumsy touch controls, it draws few notable complaints.
Kia Sorento.
While cargo space behind the second row is smaller than in some rivals, there's plenty of usable space, especially with the third-row seat folded down. It's been over 20 years since Kia introduced the Sorento midsize crossover to the U.S. market.
2024 GMC Acadia.
There's big news for the 2024 GMC Acadia, both literally and figuratively. From nose to tail, it's 10.6 inches longer than the 2023 model, with most of that made up by its wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear wheels). That translates to more interior space for both passengers and cargo, which is great since the previous Acadia was criticized for being too small in both areas. By GMC's reckoning, cargo capacity behind the third row has increased by almost 80%.The new third-generation Acadia also goes big on technology. A huge 15-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard on all models, and GM's praiseworthy Super Cruise highway driving system is available on more than just the top Denali trim. The three-row 2024 Toyota Highlander is one of its largest and most popular sport utilities, slotting between the compact RAV4 and the new Grand Highlander in the brand’s lineup. Like many Toyota SUVs, it's available with a turbocharged gas engine or a very fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain. Both offer plenty of power. The Highlander is big, but easy to drive and park. The overall driving experience, like its styling, is refined and sophisticated, but not very sporty. The Highlander hits the mark when it comes to family friendliness with a hard-to-match combination of features, safety, comfort, and reliability. The interior seats up to eight people, and there’s plenty of space for everyone. Even the third row can accommodate adults, although some rivals such as the Volkswagen Atlas and Buick Enclave have more room in the far back seats. Cargo capacity is impressive, with nearly 100 cubic feet of space available with the third-row seat folded down. The Highlander’s cabin doesn’t bring the flair for design found in the Hyundai Palisade or Kia Telluride, but it’s extremely comfortable and has the tech features families want, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Five USB charging ports are conveniently located throughout the cabin. Combine all of these features with Toyota's precision production process, and it's no surprise the Highlander is the go-to family SUV.
