To get the best out of 3D printing, it helps if you can design your own parts. In this tutorial series, we will learn to use a free 3D CAD program to do just that.
In this episode, we model our first object: a simple tool holder for allen keys, screwdrivers, etc. The main tools we use in Onshape to achieve this are 2D sketches and extrusion. There is also a focus on construction lines, constraints, dimensioning, prototyping and exporting for printing.

![Digging to create an efficient under house workshop
A short while ago I moved house, itself a really big ordeal. But since then, my adventure has continued as I’ve been chipping away at the project of digging out under the house to convert it to a workshop. This video takes you through the journey, the problems faced and the solutions I came up with to get the most out of the space.
Some people asked if some of my recent videos were filmed in a cave. I guess they now have an answer.

To get the best out of 3D printing, it helps if you can design your own parts. In this tutorial series, we will learn to use a free 3D CAD program to do just that.
Following a poll testing the waters for this series, and after carefully reading the feedback in the comments of that poll, I have selected Onshape. It’s impossible to please everyone but I think this choice will please the vast majority and allow them to achieve their goals.
This video was a little longer than anticipated, and future instalments will be concise and focussed on learning specific features to design a specific part.

Sometimes the product you want just doesn’t exist, so you have to design and create it yourself. In this case, I was looking for a device to attach to a cordless drill that would convert it into a portable drill press. That means alignment to keep bores straight, and a depth stop for repeatable countersinking. In this video, I take you through the design process and show you how to build your own.

Check out my 2nd channel, TT Racing: https://www.youtube.com/@TTRacingYT
The Magneto X from Peopoly was the company’s first FDM 3D printer. Furthermore, it included linear motors to do away with belts and pulleys. After examining the technical aspects of this system previously, I set out to give this machine a proper review. After many hours of tuning, printing and fitting updated parts, we aim to answer two questions. Is this printer ideal for engineering style filaments, and does it ‘just work’ or require a level of tinkering?

If you want a large CNC router, and are happy to save a lot of money by making it yourself, it’s hard to go past the Lowrider2 from V1 Engineering.
