Hi Guys and Gals here we have some items I found at goodwill or from a charity shop depending on where you are from (for a toy collector there's no better place to find treasure). These are quite old by modern toy standards and I saved their lives by removing ancient batteries before they leaked :) Will they all run? we will see :)
The HiT toys Trackmaster Splatter gave me no joy as I could not get it running with just a fresh battery, even the old tap tap method didn't give any results. I then stripped the drive unit apart to test the motor and it was in fact dead. So a new motor and it is as good as new :) I might add more weights so it can haul stupidly heavy trains hehe.
TOMY 2002 Henry worked immediately after fitting a new battery and the loco part is in amazing shape, the tender has a torn sticker and a missing battery cover. Nice to find some of the last of the domestic TOMY's before the trackmaster switch.
TOMY Oliver ran with just a new battery but he suffers from early rattly drive unit disease :P His body and chassis are in bad shape but it's a good opportunity for a custom on a rare engine that would normally be around $100 loose second hand. I will paint a scrap version so he can be saved :)
TOMY Stepney is in a little better shape than Oliver looks wise and he ran immediately with a new battery fitted, no plans for him yet but he looks like some child has been chewing on the funnel haha. Nice to have him I have already saved 1 from scrap and added a new funnel and light :)
The ERTL's, So I do collect the rarer of Thomas ertl trains (I have the full set of 10 ultra rare metallic paint engines). And I have several others in storage such as spencer, emily and the more rarer ones etc. The road vehicles are nice to display with the TOMY and Trackmaster trains and fits in really will as they are way out of scale with ertl trains :). The Percy paper face version is charming in that it still has the face intact and so much paint loss everywhere else hehe, a great little survivor. The ERTL Bat mobile is one from my childhood ( I was 11 years old when The Batman movie was released and I was amazed!) Always wanted an ertl bat mobile but never had the chance to find one, now I get to restore one of my very own :)
